Day 3 – LA to Big Bear

Posted on Updated on

Sunday Funday!  We left Camarillo bright and early and continued south down the PCH. Again, beyond beautiful views. We stopped at Santa Monica Pier. This is the official end of Route 66 but for us it’s the start. The other end is in Chicago.  Beautiful beaches all the way down the PCH!  After doing the touristy stop we headed towards LA and drove through Malibu.  We drove through Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive and saw lots of cool cars and stores.  We stopped at Mann’s Chinese Theater and Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was very sunny and warm in LA. We tried to go to Griffith’s Observatory but it was so super busy we could only drive through. We did catch a few views. Next we headed for the mountains and our destination for the day Big Bear Lake. Elevation over 7100 feet. Super awesome views but also super cold. It got as low as 46 on the way to motel. The boys thought it would be a scenic ride but didn’t consider the temperature at such a high altitude.  We are all sitting by heater right now.  We did about 190 miles.
